As of July 25th, 2023, the CAPM - Certified Associate in Project Management exam has changed.
Why?
As per PMI – Project Management Institute
“Based on feedback from customers and stakeholders, we have worked on simplifying our previous format.”
“This upcoming year you will see a new version of the CAPM Exam, on this version you will find that the CAPM Examination Content Outline structure is updated so that the CAPM ECO is easier to understand and interpret.”
“We have included very important information referring to CAPM application and payment process, the eligibility requirements, how to Record Your Education on the Application, how many questions will the exam have, which is the time it is allowed to take, and everything related to our new “break-time”

NEW STRUCTURE ✅
NEW DOMAINS ✅
You can see that on this new version we have 4 domains (Project Management fundamentals and core concepts, Predictive and plan-based methodologies, Agile framework methodologies, and business analysis framework), while on our previous version we used to have 13 domains (We used to call them “Knowledge Areas”).
Okay, how many questions will in each domain?
QUESTIONS
The CAPM examination is still 150 multiple-choice questions. This 150 questions will be divided on 135 scored question, and 15 unscored or pretest. All questions will be placed throughout the examination randomly.
DURATION
The allotted time to complete the CAPM examination is 3 hours.
Now there will be a 10-minute break in the exam, you won’t be able to take this break until you complete questions from 1 to 75, once you came back from your break you will not be able to return to the questions from the previous exam section you already completed before leaving to the break time.
EXAM STRATEGY
Complete 1st set of 75 questions in 90 minutes. Have a 10 minutes break. Complete 2nd set of 75 questions in 90 minutes.
Simply:
75 questions – 90 minutes cap
75 questions – 90 minutes cap
Not a “rocket science” but very important to ensure, we have everything under control for the exam.
PREPARATION MATERIALS
Big difference compare with previous exam content outline where we had a single preparation material, namely PMBOK6, now we have to use multiple sources.

APPLICATION PROCESS / REQUIREMENTS
Some of the applications requirements are a high school diploma or global equivalent and you must have been completed 23 contact hours of formal education. You must record this education hours on the project management education section of the online application. The coursework must be completed at the time of your examination.
Applications will be processed in 24 hours or less. This processing time line does not apply if your application has been selected for PMI’s audit process.
FEES PAYMENT
Referring to the fee’s payment, the proper fees for payment are determined by your PMI membership status. The PMI membership rate will apply only if you are a member of PMI at the time you submit payment for the certification. If you apply for membership right before you apply for the certification and your membership has not been completely processed before you pay for the certification exam, you will be charged the nonmember rate.
You will have a 1-year eligibility period in which you can take the examination up to three times, as candidates do not always pass the examination on their first attempt. After three attempts, you must wait 1 year from the date of the last examination before you can reapply for the certification.
If your original test was delivered using paper based administration instead of online, you will have to request a manual score once the scores are received. The fee for this manual rescore is US $45.
ACTUAL EXAM
Before taking the exam, you will have the option to complete a tutorial, and once you finished your exam you will have the option to do a survey. Both takes between 5 to 15 minutes to complete; this time is not included in the 3 hours’ time for the examination.
