Project management skill set is a combination of soft skills, hard skills and agile skills(as of 2024).
To be successful in the career path, You have to evolve and rapidly adapt. Here, I will summarize the skills which can help you to deliver successful projects.
🐔6 Essential Soft Skills for Project Managers
1. Leadership
Seeing what could be, the big picture, and leading & inspiring others.
2. Communication
The ability to understand and be understood by people from varying backgrounds.
3. Organization
Bringing order to chaos, sorting things out, & staying on top of everything.
4. Prioritization
The ability to do the right thing, at the right time.
5. Teamwork
The ability to make teams work, reading emotions and motivations effectively.
6. Creativity
The ability to see things differently and approach things uniquely.
♟️ 6 Essential Hard Skills for Project Managers
1. Project planning
The “bread and butter” of project management. Without plans, there are no projects.
2. Project scheduling
Building a “promise” and keeping this “promise”.
3. Project control
Keep things under control: cost, schedule, scope, stakeholders and management. This goes hand-in-hand to being analytical.
4. Risk management
Knowing, “how this can go wrong” and owning the responsibility of next steps. The more you do it, the better you will get.
5. Managing processes
This is the skill of managing how to run and optimize your project processes around resourcing/delivery/reporting etc…
6. Managing tasks
Breaking WBS into tangible pieces which can be assigned to the resource. Easy to track and is not an overkill on a daily basis for PMs.

1. Knowing Scrum
Scrum is the most common Agile delivery method. Having a good understanding will give you an advantage.
2. Problem solving
Managing all obstacles, errors and impediments. Focus on ownership.
3. Building team
Providing the encouragement and motivation to make sure the team can go beyond what is expected.
4. Change management
Be positive and embrace the fact that there will be changes.
5. Create the “right” environment
Work culture and workplace has a huge impact on career growth and retainment of resources.
6. Coaching
Coaching is a skill which can be used day-to-day to embrace the agile mindset and be positive about changes
